The Lorenzo difference.

Three decades. One family. The highest guest-review scores in the Riccarton set. This is what the Lorenzo difference actually looks like: not a slogan, but a small set of choices we keep making.

A Hagley Park moment opposite the lodge
Owner-operated since 1994

A lodge the owners actually live with.

Lorenzo Motor Lodge was built in the early '90s on the strength of a simple bet: that if you placed a proper motor lodge directly opposite Hagley Park, and then actually ran it well, guests would find it.

Three decades later, that bet still looks fine. Lorenzo is still owner-operated. The people who answer the phone are the people who open the front door when you arrive. There's no front-office shift handover, no franchise manual, no guest-experience committee somewhere in another city.

What that means in practice: someone here remembers your name if you've been before. The linen gets replaced when it should, not when the head-office schedule says. The plumbing gets fixed the same week it breaks. And the coffee in the room is the coffee we'd actually drink ourselves.

The Lorenzo family

The evidence

The highest-rated motor lodge in Riccarton.

We're not the biggest or the shiniest property on the strip. We just happen to have the best guest-review scores, consistently, across every independent platform that tracks them.

What it's made of

The choices behind the reviews.

Motor-lodge service sounds generic on paper. In practice it comes down to a small handful of specific choices, made and re-made every day. Here are ours.

01 · Position

Across the road from 165 hectares of park.

The first and biggest thing. Nothing else in Riccarton puts you one pedestrian crossing from Hagley Park, the largest urban park in New Zealand, a 25-minute riverside walk to the CBD, and a wall of mature oaks out the front door. Position is the one thing the competitor on Fendalton Road can't buy.

02 · Quiet

A lodge you can actually sleep in.

Rooms are set back from the road behind a mature garden frontage. Double-glazing throughout, thick internal walls, and room-to-room layouts designed so you never share a common wall with a bathroom. Most guests tell us afterwards: what they remember is the silence.

03 · Space

Rooms with room to unpack.

Lorenzo rooms are notably larger than the Riccarton motel average: executive studios start where some competitor rooms end. Two-bedroom apartments have proper kitchens and separate living rooms. Space matters for a week-long work trip, a hospital stay or a family weekend.

04 · Spa

Private spa baths that actually work.

Every Lorenzo spa suite has a private, two-person spa bath installed in-room, genuinely warm, genuinely quiet, genuinely clean. Not a hot tub, not a shared facility, your own spa, in your own suite. Still the most-mentioned feature in our guest reviews.

05 · Service

Owners on the line.

When you call, an owner picks up. When something needs sorting, an owner sorts it, not a chain of escalating "let me check with my manager". Guests who stay multiple times say it's the difference that keeps bringing them back. We think they're right.

06 · Standards

Independently Qualmark-rated 4-Star-Plus.

Qualmark is New Zealand's official tourism quality-assurance programme: independent, audited, renewed annually. We hold 4-Star-Plus, the second-highest tier available to motor lodges. The rating is the floor of what we deliver, not the ceiling.

What 4-Star-Plus means

Independently rated, audited every year.

Qualmark is Tourism New Zealand's official quality-assurance programme. Every rated property is physically inspected against a detailed, published framework, covering rooms, service, cleanliness, safety, environmental practice and accessibility.

4-Star-Plus is the second-highest tier available to motor lodges, and properties are re-assessed annually. For guests it removes the guesswork: the rating in the lobby is one an outside auditor signed off, not a line we wrote ourselves.

★★★★★

"What I can't get over is the quiet. Riccarton Road is 30 metres away and you'd never know. We slept ten hours both nights. The spa was a genuine treat. The welcome when we arrived was warm without being fussy."

★★★★★

"We've stayed at Lorenzo six times now and at three other Christchurch motels in the same period. Lorenzo is the only one we'd happily book again. The owners remember us, the rooms are always immaculate, and the walk into town through the park is the best thing about the trip."

Peter & Andrea G.Verified Booking.com review
★★★★★

"Booked for a work week and ended up extending twice. The Wi-Fi actually works, the desk is a real desk, and the kitchenette meant I didn't eat out every night of the trip. Owners went out of their way to help. First-rate."
